TagSnap — Privacy Policy

TagSnap is a Chrome extension that lets you click elements on your own website and generate Google Tag Manager (GTM) tags, triggers, and variables. This policy explains what data TagSnap accesses, how it is used, and what is stored.

What TagSnap accesses

Google Tag Manager account data (via Google OAuth). With your permission, TagSnap uses the Google Tag Manager API scopes https://www.googleapis.com/auth/tagmanager.readonly and https://www.googleapis.com/auth/tagmanager.edit.containers to (1) read the list of GTM accounts, containers, workspaces, and variables you have access to, so you can choose where a tag is created; and (2) create the tag, trigger, and variables you configure, in the workspace you select. TagSnap only performs these actions in response to your explicit choices in the extension. It does not modify or delete anything you did not request.

The active tab you are inspecting (activeTab + scripting). When you start inspection, TagSnap reads elements of the current page to generate a CSS selector and to preview the text, link, and image an element exposes. This page reading happens locally in your browser and only for the tab you explicitly invoke TagSnap on. TagSnap does not read pages in the background and does not collect your browsing history.

What TagSnap stores

TagSnap stores a small amount of data locally in your browser using Chrome storage:

• Per-site GTM profile (chrome.storage.local): the Account, Container, and Workspace IDs you selected for a given website domain, so they are restored on your next visit.
• Current session state (chrome.storage.session): the element you captured and your in-progress selections, so they survive reopening the panel.

This data stays on your device. It is not personal information and is not transmitted to us.

What TagSnap transmits

To perform GTM operations, the extension sends requests to a backend service (a Supabase Edge Function) that acts as a proxy to the Google Tag Manager API. Each request carries your Google OAuth access token (used only to call the GTM API on your behalf for that request) and the tag configuration you chose (selector, event name, parameters, and a short preview sample of the captured text/link/image used only for naming and on-screen diagnostics). The backend uses these values solely to fulfill the GTM operation you requested. It is stateless — it does not store your token, your page data, or your GTM configuration after the request completes.

What TagSnap does NOT do

• We do not sell or rent your data.
• We do not share your data with third parties, except transmitting your request to the Google Tag Manager API to perform the action you requested.
• We do not use your data for advertising.
• We do not collect analytics about your browsing.

Google API Limited Use disclosure

TagSnap's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
